After being a cool mom (not a regular mom) at the Balenciaga show in Paris last week – where she sat front row with her daughter and stepdaughter—Salma Hayek was firmly back in bombshell mode at the 2022 BAFTAs. The House of Gucci star (and wife of Kering boss François-Henri Pinault), swapped all black and shades for a velvet Gucci dress that put the spotlight squarely on her famous figure.
Hayek’s purple dress featured a deep sweetheart neckline with a lace trim, an exposed black lace back, exaggerated shoulders and a thigh-high split that revealed more lace. Long sleeve shift dresses It evoked the gowns she favored in the ’90s and noughties, when Hayek walked the red carpet in figure-hugging dresses in rich jewel colours and luxe fabrics (remember the lilac Hervé Léger minidress she wore to a Lethal Weapon premiere back in 1998?).
In fact, purple remains something of a favorite for the star, who wore a maximalist lilac sequined gown by Gucci’s Alessandro Michele to the 2018 Oscars, and a plunging purple dress, also Gucci, on the red carpet at Cannes in 2015. Can it be a coincidence that it’s the color most associated with royalty? Which, in Hollywood, 55-year-old Hayek absolutely is.
